"Todas las luces del dia", in Spanish, means "all the Lights of the Day". What could be a more appropriate theme for the vastly talented artist, Royo? His favorite element to incorporate in all of his works is the sunlight of the Mediterranean. The infusion of light and warmth can always be felt in his dramatic paintings.

Royo begins all of his compositions in the French tradition of plein aire, that is outside and in the light of the day. Each morning he stages his beloved models (they are his wife, his daughter, and friends of the family) in the setting he has chosen for that day. These settings can be outside one of his studios, or in one of the gardens and orchards which surround his home. When he is in Mallorca, each summer, these sites can be on the beach or on a rocky cliff, overlooking the Mediterranean.

Without light there is no color, no vision. The unique sunlight of southern Spain acts as one of the artist's muses, influences him and leads him, and he pays homage to the sun in all of his work. There are very special differences in the effects the sun gives as the day goes on. These effects are not only visual in the way that the changes on lighting brings on shadows, but also in the moods that are evoked as day and the sun passes.

As always with Royo, beautiful women are the windows for his expressions, what he chooses to show us. Each of his wonderful compositions stands alone in it's individual statement of beauty, serenity, color and light.
