| Mort
Kunstler...
"Like a frozen tear drop, a Mort Künstler painting captures
on canvas the pathos and drama of a single moment of war. Whether
its the poignant goodbye between Confederate Gen. Thomas
J. Stonewall" Jackson and his wife, Anna, or the fire,
smoke and brutality of the assault on Cemetery Ridge in Gettysburg,
Künstlers Civil War tableaux teem with vitality, portraying
layers of emotion and the raw wounds of battle in richly detailed,
historically authentic war scapes."
- Mary O. Bradley; Harrisburg Patriot-News
Mort Kunstler has accomplished much in his 30
years of professional painting. Along with attending art school
at Brooklyn Vollege, U.C.L.A., and Pratt University; Kunstler
has also enjoyed a long and successful tour as an artist for national
magazines like Saturday Evening Post, National Geographic,
Newsweek and Argosy.
Specializing for a while in the Old West, Mort
Kunstler had done numerous one-man exhibitions, had become affiliated
with New Yorks City's prestigious Hammer Galleries and had seen
his work showcased in a dazzling book: The American Spirit:
The Paintings of Mort Kunstler. His historical art hung
in prominent spots from Madison Square Garden to the White House,
and after years of success he seemed to be at the pinnacle of
his career...then he discovered the Civil War.
Probably no other artist has recorded so many
events in the history of America and certainly no one has done
them with such extraordinary authenticity and drama as Mort Künstler.
